  • MODESTO - Police investigated a shooting that critically injured a man early Saturday morning during a carjacking attempt. Authorities received a 911 call at about 4:00am Saturday reporting two males tried to carjack them at a McDonalds on the 1800 block of Prescott Road. The driver was able to get away from the area, and the victim called 911 to make a report. Firefighters with the Stockton Fire Department responded to the area of the 1900 block of Navy Drive shortly after 4:45am for a report of a grass fire.   • MODESTO - Parents have expressed growing concern over a broken air conditioning unit in a kindergarten class at Stockard-Coffee Elementary School, especially with triple digit weather this week.   One parent reached out to CVTV Thursday saying her child was on day 4 this week without air conditioning. By 12:00pm Thursday the temperatures had reached 104 degrees. The parent said she was not notified of the situation, and that the teacher had reported the issue to the district office.    The parent, who wished to remain anonymous, said that she was told the district was waiting on a part for repair.
