In November of 1991, authorities with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the disappearance of Zandstra, which was initially classified as a missing persons case. She and Pyle were in a relationship at the time and living together in Stirling City, according to officials.

Although her body has never been found, detectives continued to investigate the case throughout the 27 years and located evidence that she had been murdered and her body disposed of. Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Pyle and worked with the Stockton Police Department to locate him. Pyle was listed as a transient.

On August 15th, Pyle was located in Stockton and arrested on the murder warrant.

“I am proud of the persistent determination of the many detectives and investigators who have worked throughout the years to bring justice to Tracy and closure to her family,” Sheriff Kory Honea said.

Pyle was booked into the Butte County Jail with a bail set at one million dollars. He was expected to be arraigned in the Butte County Superior Court Monday afternoon.

MODESTO - A social media post warning of a shooting that has been widely shared appears to be mostly unfounded and spreading unnecessary panic.

The post, which appears to have been shared on instagram, screen-capped and shared again warns of a shooting at a Wal Mart.

”FYI be safe,” the post reads. “DO NOT go to Walmart this weekend in Modesto!! In case you haven’t heard there is a planned shooting. Police caught the guy but he states that one of his family members will be doing the shooting instead. Just wanted to spread the news!!!”

The post is written over with additional messages like “Please read very important,” and “For all my friends and family be safe.” Another caption encourages the post to be shared.

Police are aware of the post and say the information is unconfirmed, which they say has also been shared in other states as well.

”We don’t know anything about the origin of the post or those involved with this,” a police spokesperson said. They also had no knowledge of anyone arrested for the allegations in the post.

Although the incident may be untrue, authorities are still taking precautions. “It’s on our radar and Walmart security is aware.”

The original intent of the post is unclear, but what is certain is the frustration and unnecessary panic it can create.

”Honestly my first reaction was that I didn’t really believe it,” one viewer commented regarding the post. “But considering all of the recent events, especially as we seen on the news yesterday at the local McDonald’s there’s always a possibility for anything now.”

Police say it’s always good to be aware of your surroundings, no matter where you are.
