MODESTO – Emergency crews responded to a fire that caused major damage to a home early Sunday morning.

Firefighters responded to the report of smoke shortly after midnight in the area of the 2500 block of Black Walnut Drive. Additional information received during the response prompted firefighters to upgrade and request additional resources to the scene.

Arriving firefighters found a two-story home with heavy fire conditions. The fire had already vented itself through a hole in the roof of the home’s garage.

A second alarm was called to bring more firefighters to the scene, as crews worked to contain the blaze. It took approximately 40 minutes for firefighters to bring the fire under control. Crews remained on scene for an additional period of time to make sure hotspots were extinguished, and to secure the home.

No injuries were reported during the incident. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
