MODESTO - Two schools were placed on lockdown late Monday morning after a report came in of a distraught man firing a gun.

Police were dispatched at about 11:45am to the 400 block of Yosemite Avenue for a report of a 19 year old man firing a gun. Initially, the incident was reported as a self inflicted gun shot wound.

Additional arriving officers reported hearing more gunfire. The man was reportedly armed with a shotgun. Initial information indicates the man was upset over the recent death of a relative.

Modesto High School and James Marshall Elementary were placed on lock down during the investigation.
