FBI Agents Thwart Modesto Man's Terrorist Plot

MODESTO - Authorities took a man into custody this week who planned to carry out a terrorist attack at Pier 39 in San Francisco on Christmas Day.

According to documents filed in the US District Court Eastern District of California Friday, a criminal complaint alleges that Everitt Aaron Jameson planned to build explosive devices and carry out an attack on Monday. The complaint was filed by Special Agent Christopher McKinney with the FBI.

The document details Jameson's social media activity led to his discovery. A "confidential human source" made contact with him to learn of the details of his plan. Jameson had been in communication with the FBI contact, who led him to believe he had connections to ISIS and to develop plans for his attack. He planned to build explosives in a mountainous location, store them at his home, then detonate them at Pier 39.

A search warrant of Jameson's home led to his arrest and gathering of evidence, according to the twelve page complaint. As agents interviewed Jameson, he expressed his support of ISIS and said he would have been happy had such an attack would have been carried out.

A Facebook account believed to have belonged to Jameson was shut down off the social media site early Friday afternoon.
