An arriving sheriff deputy attempted to extinguish flames erupting from one vehicle as fire crews arrived. They were able to extinguish the fire and remove the trapped occupant. Early reports indicate at least one or more persons fled the crash scene prior to emergency crews arriving.

An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene to transport one injured person to a hospital.

The crash may have began as an armed robbery, according to the California Highway Patrol, however the investigation was turned over to the sheriff's office.
