Schools Locked Down for Suspect Search

MODESTO – Two schools were placed on lockdown during a search for a suspect Friday afternoon.

The incident happened at about 1:00pm when a Stanislaus County Sheriff Deputy noticed a vehicle that had been reported stolen on Dallas Street near Glenn Avenue. The driver of the stolen vehicle appeared to be talking to someone in the area, according to officials at the scene.

The driver ran away on foot as deputies made their approach. The man jumped fences through a yard and fled into an alleyway. The Stanislaus Sheriff Air Unit spotted the man making his way into a yard on Las Vegas Street.

Bret Harte Elementary and Hanshaw Middle School were placed on lockdown as a search team was organized. Within a few minutes the man was located hiding under a vehicle and quickly detained without incident.

By 2:00pm the lockdowns were lifted. No injuries were reported.

Police Investigate Shooting

STOCKTON – At least one person was wounded during a shooting Monday night.

The shooting happened shortly after 8:20pm. Police were dispatched to the 400 block of East Pine Street and found one person with a gunshot wound. Medical personnel were called to take the victim to a hospital. Their condition was unknown at time of publication.

A second person in the area of the shooting was also transported to a hospital with unknown injuries. Early reports indicate some type of laceration.

The suspect reportedly fled in a vehicle prior to police arriving.

Shooting Injures Two While Sitting in Car

STOCKTON – Two people were shot as they sat in a vehicle Saturday night, sending both to a hospital.

The incident happened at about 8:00pm near the 8600 block of Lower Sacramento Road. The victims, identified as a 30 year old man and a 28 year old woman, were sitting in a car at a shopping center when two suspects approached on foot. One had a gun and opened fire several times. The suspects then both ran off.

The victims were found in the vehicle by police near the intersection of Lower Sacramento Road and Ponce De Leon Avenue. They were rushed to a hospital and were both listed as stable Sunday morning.

There was no suspect description other than male adults.

Early Morning Homicide Investigated

STOCKTON – Authorities investigated an early morning shooting that claimed the life of a man Sunday.

Police officers were dispatched to the area of Funston Avenue and Bradford Street shortly before 5:30am Sunday for a report of a person who was shot. Arriving emergency personnel found a 42 year old man who was shot. Life saving measures were performed but the victim died at the scene.

The area was closed off with crime scene tape. Detectives responded to examine the area for evidence in the case. A vehicle with damaged windows was examined by authorities near where the victim was located.

There was no motive or suspect information available Sunday.
