Fatal Hit and Run Investigated in Ceres

CERES – Authorities investigated a fatal hit and run collision involving a pedestrian Tuesday night.

Emergency responders were called to Mitchell Road just south of the Whitmore Avenue intersection at about 7:14pm initially for a report of a motorcyclist struck by a vehicle. Officers arrived and found that it was a pedestrian that had been hit.

The male victim was found unresponsive without a pulse. He was transported to a hospital where he died.

Officers at the scene said they believe the pedestrian was crossing Mitchell Road when he was struck, and were working to determine which direction they were walking.

Authorities said they were looking for a dark green or black Dodge Caravan type vehicle. The van was driven by a Hispanic man with short hair and a white shirt. The van was last seen eastbound on Whitmore Avenue from Mitchell Road and should have significant front damage and a broken windshield.

The Ceres Police Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene.
