SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY – A crash Sunday morning sent one person to the hospital with major injuries and caused damage to several utility poles.

The collision was reported shortly before 8:00am near the intersection of Highway 26 near Baldwin Lane east of Stockton. According to the California Highway Patrol, two vehicles described as a gray Toyota Sedan and a dark Chevy pickup truck were involved in the crash, as well as several utility poles.

Reports indicate the pickup truck caught fire, but the passengers were able to exit safely. The occupant of the sedan was reportedly ejected. The damaged poles and collapsed power lines presented a challenge to rescue personnel to reach the injured motorists.

At least one person was transported to a hospital with major injuries. Authorities expected the roadway to be closed for at least eight hours while crews repaired the damaged poles and collapsed power lines.

Closures on Highway 26 were expected to be placed at Beyer and Alpine.
