Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle Near Turlock

TURLOCK – A pedestrian suffered major injuries Sunday afternoon when they were struck by a vehicle near Taylor Road.

The incident was dispatched to the California Highway Patrol at about 1:40pm on southbound Highway 99 near Taylor Road. Early reports indicate a white Cadillac sedan was involved and stopped in the center median. The pedestrian was found on the right shoulder with major injuries.

No further details were available at time of publication.

Motorist Involved in Fatal Crash Identified

MERCED – Authorities have released details of a vehicle collision that claimed the life of a driver Saturday night.

Shortly before 9:30pm emergency crews responded to the 1200 block of West North Bear Creek Drive for a report of a vehicle that had crashed. Arriving personnel located a vehicle that had crashed into the creek and landed upside down partially submerged in the water.

Officers were able to make their way down into the creek and pull the occupant out of the vehicle. The driver was identified as 42-year-old Sabian Martinez. He died at the scene from his injuries.

Police closed the roadway for several hours between R Street and Creekside Drive to investigate the collision.

Weekend Major Injury Crash Investigated

STOCKTON – Police investigated a collision Saturday that critically injured at least one motorist.

The crash happened at about 11:41am near the intersection of Airport Way and 12th Street. Police said the crash involved two vehicles. One appeared to be a white Suburban SUV, the other appeared to be an older Mercedes-Benz sedan.

One of the involved motorists suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The other remained at the scene and cooperated with investigating officers.

Traffic officers responded to the scene to take over the investigation. The northbound lanes of Airport Way were closed for a couple of hours.

Overturned Truck Slows Highway Traffic

MERCED COUNTY – The driver of a big rig escaped serious injuries when their truck overturned early Sunday morning.

The incident happened in the Livingston area at about 2:25am. For unknown reasons, the truck overturned blocking both lanes of northbound Highway 99 near the Collier Road offramp. The driver was uninjured according to the California Highway Patrol.

Traffic had backed up to Sultana Road by noon as crews worked to clear the roadway. By 1:30pm the highway was nearly ready for re-opening.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
