Fiery Crash Reported Near Downtown Modesto

MODESTO – A fiery crash near downtown Modesto closed several roadways Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened shortly before 12:30pm near the intersection of 4th and K Streets. Early reports indicate two vehicles were involved, with the collision causing one to catch fire. Witnesses attempted to pull a motorist out of the burning vehicle which was fully engulfed before emergency personnel arrived.

The fire spread to a nearby fence but firefighters were able to stop it from spreading further.

Witnesses in the area said the vehicle that crash was a Tesla, and it hit a speed bump before the collision. The vehicle was stopped on the sidewalk.

The crash is under investigation.

Authorities Seek Man That Took Merced Police Car

MERCED – Police are seeking the identity of a man they believe took a police vehicle Wednesday night and later abandoned it.

The incident happened near a parking lot of the 1400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way. An officer was investigating a theft at about 10:40pm when an unknown person took the vehicle and sped off. Authorities said the officer was about 40 feet away from the car.

The abandoned vehicle was located about 20 minutes later near the 500 block of West 27th Street. Police said there were no firearms in the car at the time that it was taken. It was not damaged, and nothing was taken.

Surveillance images of the suspect were retrieved and released by authorities. The suspect is described as a Hispanic or Asian man wearing a black hat, black hoodie, red shirt and red shoes.

Motorcyclist Injured in Crash Near Turlock

TURLOCK – A motorcyclist was rushed to a hospital by ambulance after a traffic collision Sunday night.

The crash happened at about 9:45pm near the intersection of West Main Street and Washington Road. Early reports indicate a white Honda sedan was involved in the collision with the motorcycle.

The Honda remained at the scene. The rider was rushed to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto by ambulance.

Turlock Police and the California Highway Patrol both responded to investigate the crash. The intersection was closed as authorities examined the scene.
