TURLOCK – Police arrested a 31 year old man following an assault that resulted in the death of a man at Central Park on Tuesday.
Shortly before 1:00pm, officers responded to a report of an aggravated assault at the park, located near the 100 block of South Golden State Boulevard.
Arriving officers found a 54 year old man, identified as Donald Byoyodavid, unresponsive. Despite life saving efforts from police and medical personnel, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities say Byoyodavid was struck in the head with a chain. Detectives were able to identify 31 year old Devin Tillery as a suspect and worked to locate him. He was taken into custody within a few hours after a brief foot chase, and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on murder charges.
Officials say they are working to determine the motive, what led up to the incident, and the relationship between the two individuals.
“We understand the concerns of residents and business owners, and I want to emphasize that this appears to be an isolated incident,” said Police Chief Jason Hedden in a released statement. “Public safety remains our top priority, and we will continue to have a strong presence in the area.”
