MODESTO – Authorities have identified a woman who lost her life in a crash that happened earlier this month.

The crash happened on February 10th, shortly before 7:30pm. Officers responded to the intersection of East Briggsmore Avenue and Held Drive for the report of a crash and found a Dodge Dakota that had been involved in a collision. The impact caused the truck to catch fire.

Emergency personnel located two people, one of which was the passenger. She was identified as 20 year old Guadalupe Hernandez of Riverbank. She was transported to a hospital by ambulance, and on February 19th police reported that she died from her injuries.

The driver was identified as 34 year old Anthony Avalos of Modesto who was also taken to a hospital. Avalos suffered major injuries but is expected to survive.

Investigators believe the Dodge Dakota pickup both victims were traveling in was headed in a westbound direction when it crossed nearby railroad tracks. Police believe Avalos lost control of the truck resulting in the truck leaving the roadway and crashing into a tree.
