MODESTO – Officers with the California Highway Patrol investigated a collision Saturday night that claimed the life of a pedestrian.

The incident was dispatched to officers at about 9:11pm near the area of South 9th Street and the Southbound Highway 99 onramp. Early reports indicate the person was down in the roadway. Arriving officers reported the pedestrian appeared to have been struck by a vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The onramp to the highway and the ramp to the Hatch Road over crossing was closed to traffic while officers investigated the collision. A vehicle with collision damage was located a short distance away and was later towed for evidence.

The area is the same location a woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in Late August.

At about 10:45pm a driver unrelated to the collision drove through the road closure and was found to be driving under the influence.

More police presence In Modesto is needed. We have had a lot of pedestrians killed when they took away jaywalking violation more pedestrians have died.they think they have the right away everywhere.and continue to walk out into moving traffic..wear black no lights on bike
Right more tickets might save their life.
