STOCKTON – High temperatures are not only dangerous for humans but also for animals.

One local animal sanctuary, Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary based in French Camp witnessed the dangers of high temperatures today.

The organization rescued a group of rabbits who were living outdoors in wire cages.

Unfortunately one rabbit died of heatstroke before the rescue efforts, leaving four survivors.

“Bringing animals indoors is critical to sustaining their lives,” says Christine Morrissey with Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary.

The surviving rabbits were checked out by Dr. Luehman and are now safe with the sanctuary.

According to the National Weather Service the heat will continue in the area and a Red Flag Warning has been issued starting 10 pm Monday continuing until 8 am Wednesday.
