MODESTO – Police responded to a collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian Thursday night.

The crash happened shortly after 8:00pm near the intersection of Yosemite Boulevard and Beard Avenue. Emergency crews arrived and found an adult male down in the road way after being struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police closed off both directions of Yosemite Boulevard between Lincoln Avenue and Riverside Drive. Traffic investigators responded to the area to take measurements and document the scene. The driver of the involved Honda SUV remained on the scene and cooperated with authorities. Impaired driving did not appear to be a factor in the collision, according to Sergeant Starr with the Modesto Police Department.

The sergeant explained that they believe the pedestrian was crossing the road, however the area has no designated crosswalk because of a continuous median.

Authorities strongly urge drivers and pedestrians to be mindful of each other on roadways. Being safe would help police reduce the amount of collisions like these, the sergeant said.
