MODESTO – Traffic officials with the Modesto Police Department investigated a collision involving a pedestrian Wednesday night.

The collision happened at about 8:00pm near the intersection of Carver Road and Standiford Avenue. The westbound lanes were closed down by police during the investigation.

Arriving officers located a pedestrian suffering from major injuries, who was then rushed to a hospital. The pedestrian was said to be an adult male.

Officials at the scene said a witness reported the involved vehicle had the green light at the time of the collision. It was unclear if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk or not. The driver of the silver Nissan sedan remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Police said impaired driving did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Police noted a significant issue with collisions involving pedestrians. Officials urge the public to be mindful of pedestrian laws, especially in heavily traveled intersections.

“We have more of these than we should,” said Sergeant Patrick Kimes. “People need to use better judgment when crossing the roads.”
