PATTERSON – Deputies searched for a group of suspects after a failed attempt at stealing an ATM machine early Thursday morning.

The incident happened around 4:45am at the Save Mart supermarket on Sperry Avenue. The suspects apparently used a mini van to smash the entrance of the store. A chain was tied from the back of the van to at least one ATM machine just inside the doorway.

The plan failed, as deputies who were quick to respond found the vehicle abandoned and the ATM machine still in place.

Deputies searched the store while employees from the business waited inside of a nearby McDonald’s. The search ended after about an hour.

One deputy at the scene who signaled to arriving citizens that the parking lot was closed said they were looking for four responsible individuals.

No further details were available at time of publication.
