Multi-Alarm Fire in Modesto Wrecking Yard

MODESTO – Fire Crews from many agencies responded to a fire at a wrecking yard that reached at least four alarms Sunday afternoon.

The fire was dispatched to an auto wrecking yard on the 500 block of Crows Landing Road shortly before 3:15pm Early reports indicated multiple vehicles on fire.

A large plume of black smoke was visible around the region. Traffic in the area was deadlocked by onlookers driving by on both Highway 99 and surface streets.

Crows Landing Road was completely closed down between the highway and up to South Seventh Street. Seventh was also closed up to B Street.

Firefighters surrounded the wrecking yard to defend nearby structures threatened by the flames. Commercial buildings located to the south, and a mobile home park to the north were both at risk of the fire.

At time of publication, resources were still being called and no cause was available.
