MANTECA – Police say a woman died after she walked into a business with a gunshot wound and collapsed at a shopping center Sunday night.
Shortly after 10:00pm, police officers responded to the Manteca Marketplace Shopping Center located at the intersection of Union Road and West Yosemite Avenue for a report of a person shot. Arriving police officers and medical personnel arrived and attempted to provide life saving aid to the victim, but she died at the scene.
Much of the shopping center was closed off as a crime scene. Detectives responded to take over the investigation. Authorities believe the shooting happened in front of one business and the victim apparently went into a nearby Planet Fitness gym for help where she collapsed.
By the morning a small memorial with candles and a photo of the victim were left near the doorway. Signs posted to the door indicated the business was closed while people cleaned up inside. Customers trying to use the gym were turned away. Further down near a Rite Aid pharmacy, a man swept away broken glass.
No further details were released by authorities in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
