CERES – A vehicle collision that resulted in a fire shut down Crows Landing Road and claimed the life of a motorist Friday night.
The crash happened near the intersection of Crows Landing and Barnhart Roads at about 7:30pm. Early reports indicate three vehicles were involved, a pickup truck, a Lexus sedan and an SUV.
The hay bales and an involved vehicle caught fire as a result of the collision. Crows Landing Road was completely closed down between Keyes and Taylor Roads.
An air ambulance was called to the scene to fly one motorist to a hospital. A second air ambulance was dispatched but was later canceled.
A resident who lived nearby and saw the fire ran over with a fire extinguisher to try to help before emergency crews arrived.
The crash was under investigation by California Highway Patrol Officers.
