MODESTO – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the region.

Both San Joaquin County and Stanislaus County were included in the warning which begins at 5:00 AM Sunday and ends at 11:00 PM Monday.

The National Weather Service reports the Fire Weather Watch was upgraded to a Red Flag Warning due to potential thunderstorms Sunday and Monday. The change came because of remnant moisture from Hurricane Genevieve.

These thunderstorms come with little to no rain. Officials say the main threat is lightning and gusty, erratic winds near the possible storms.

A potential danger these thunderstorms carry is the possibility of starting fires.

The National Weather Service warns people to call 911 if they see smoke. If thunder or lightning is seen staying indoors is advised.

Having an emergency plan in case of a fire in your area is greatly encouraged.
