DELHI – Authorities called out the Merced Police Bomb Squad after a resident found a hand grenade in a storage shed.

Deputies with the Merced County Sheriff’s Office responded Saturday afternoon to a home on the 16000 block of Boatman Avenue. The reporting party indicated they had found the grenade while cleaning out a shed.

The grenade was found in a clothes trunk belonging to their grandfather who was a Korean War Veteran. They believed the trunk had not been open since he returned from the war.

The Merced Police Bomb Squad was called to assist in safely removing the grenade. Authorities would like to remind the public that such items from past wars can become unstable and unpredictable over time, and anyone who finds such an item should call 911 immediately.
