MODESTO – Firefighters from various agencies battled a large fire at a pallet yard early Monday morning.

The fire was reported at about 12:45am at a pallet yard that runs just north of Hatch Road west of the Highway 99 over-crossing. Arriving crews found heavy fire conditions with flames reaching nearby utility lines.

Fire crews had to make entry to the property from South Seventh Street, as Stanislaus Sheriff Deputies closed traffic between Pearson Avenue and Church Lane.

Firefighters used two ladder trucks to extinguish the flames, and by 2:00am the fire was brought under control. Power was shut off to homes surrounding the area after utility lines caught fire and began to collapse.

At least one investigator was on site working to determine the cause of the fire. Crews from Modesto, Ceres and Stanislaus Consolidated fire departments all responded to the incident.
