MODESTO – A high speed chase through South Modesto ended in an arrest early Saturday morning.

At about 2:00am, Stanislaus County Sheriff Deputies conducted a stop on a pickup truck in a shopping center near Crows Landing Road and Winmoore Way. As deputies were detaining a passenger, the driver ducked down in his seat to avoid being seen. He then fled north on Crows Landing Road and west on Hatch Road trying to evade authorities.

The pickup continued south on Vivian Road and entered an orchard near Whitmore Avenue. Deputies and officers with California Highway Patrol attempted to set up a perimeter around the orchard, but the truck exited on Whitmore and fled east.

The truck entered a private road next to an orchard near Fairview Elementary and soon became stuck in a ditch. The driver attempted to run on foot, but was captured with the help of a Stanislaus County Sheriff K-9.

An ambulance was called for the driver who suffered a bite wound to the leg. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
