Homicide Victim’s Remains Identified

MERCED – Authorities identified the remains of a man on Tuesday who was found in a fire at a homeless encampment in late December.

Carl Tyler Adams, 34, was identified by the Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office as the victim of a homicide. His remains were found in a homeless encampment hidden in tall brush that had caught fire.

The investigation began on December 31st 2020. Shortly before 7:00am firefighters were dispatched to the area of Highway 99 near V Street for a report of a brush fire. Human remains were found in the area after the flames were extinguished.

Investigators with the California Highway Patrol determined that Adams was the victim of a homicide. A cause of death, motive, or suspect information was not available.
