MODESTO – A crash involving a driver on the run from authorities resulted in their death, and sent the occupants of an uninvolved vehicle to the hospital following a crash on Crows Landing Road.
The crash happened at about 3:35pm near the “S” curve where Crows Landing Road becomes South Seventh Street near the Tuolumne River. Moments before, the vehicle responsible for the collision was on the run near the area of Shackleford Elementary School in South Modesto. The circumstances for why they fled are not known at the moment.
Deputies pursuing the vehicle arrived to find the crash scene. They began providing aid to the injured and called for firefighters and ambulances. Officers with the Modesto Police Department and California Highway Patrol responded to assist.
Several ambulances and fire personnel responded to the scene. Firefighters had to use rescue tools to remove the driver of a blue Ford. The two occupants sitting in the front of that vehicle were rushed away quickly by ambulance. A paramedic carefully placed a child on the gurney of another ambulance.
The area was closed off for investigation at time of publication. Motorists trying to navigate around the area should seek alternate routes like South 9th Street or Highway 99.
