Child Kidnap Suspect Arrested

MERCED – Officers with the Merced Police Department arrested a 65-year-old man accused of kidnapping an eight-year-old child Wednesday afternoon.

At about 3:45pm Wednesday afternoon officers with the Merced Police Department responded to Rahilly Park for a report of a possible child kidnapping. The parents reported their eight-year-old child was at Rahilly Park when a transient man approached her and forced her inside his tent. The tent was located along a bike path near the park.

Police said the child was able to escape uninjured and returned home. Police searched the area and located 65-year-old Rolando Gonzalez. He was arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail on charges including kidnapping and annoying/molesting a child.

Pedestrian Fatality Reported on Crows Landing Road

STANISLAUS COUNTY – A pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene of a collision Wednesday night.

Shortly before 10:00pm, emergency crews were dispatched to the area of Crows Landing Road and Monte Vista Avenue for a report of a collision.

Arriving personnel declared the pedestrian deceased at the scene. The involved motorist pulled over nearby.

The roadway was closed to traffic, CHP Officers responded to investigate the crash.

Crash Claims Life of Motorist in Northeast Modesto

MODESTO – A Monday afternoon crash in the northeast side of the city claimed the life of a Waterford man, police reported.

At about 6:30pm emergency crews responded to a report of a two vehicle crash near the intersection of Claus and Milnes Roads. Arriving personnel found an unresponsive driver in one of the involved vehicles. Despite life saving efforts the driver died from his injuries.

Authorities say the investigation indicates a black Acura ILX was headed west on Milnes Road and was broadsided by a Ford F150 as it entered Claus Road.

No further details were released.

House Fire Leads to Evacuations

CERES – Police officers evacuated neighboring residents near a home that caught fire late Tuesday night.

The fire was dispatched at about 11:15pm near the 1300 block of Riverette Drive. Arriving emergency personnel reported fire from the back of the home. Early reports indicate the occupants were able to safely escape.

Additional police officers responded to evacuate neighbors, some also responding to the nearby mobile home park.

Several fire crews responded to the scene. No further details were available at time of publication.
