Motorcyclist Thrown Off Bridge in Highway Crash

SALIDA – A crash involving a motorcycle ejected the rider, throwing him over the bridge at the county line on Highway 99 Monday night.

At about 9:44pm emergency crews were dispatched to the bridge over the Stanislaus River on southbound Highway 99. California Highway Patrol Officers, deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office and firefighters from several agencies responded to the scene.

According to a motorist who witnessed the crash, she and her husband were traveling south when they saw the rider approaching their pickup at high speeds.

“He had to be doing about 120,” she said. “He must have realized he was going to hit us and just laid his bike down. He saved us.”

The motorcyclist was ejected and thrown over the west side of the bridge. The two occupants of the pickup pulled over just north of the Hammett Avenue exit and called 911.

Fearing the motorcyclist may have landed in the river, resources were starting to begin a search. The Modesto Police Department responded with a drone and after about 15 minutes of searching, the rider was located on the north bank of the river.

Medical personnel rushed to the rider’s location and began performing CPR. Despite life saving efforts, the rider later died from his injuries.

Two lanes of Highway 99 were closed while officers investigated the collision, backing traffic up into Ripon.

Driver Arrested in Fatal Hit and Run Crash

STOCKTON – Police arrested a 23 year old man on Tuesday in connection to a fatal hit and run collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian.

At about 6:45pm Tuesday Stockton Police Officers responded to the area of March Lane and Venetian Drive for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a car. The driver fled the scene, and the 60 year old pedestrian died at the scene.

Traffic investigators were called out to the scene. They were able to determine the driver to be 23 year old Giovanni Angelo who was arrested.

Angelo faces charges including hit and run resulting in death and running a red light. He is due in court Thursday at 1:30pm.

Car Split In Two By Crash Near Turlock

CHP Officers investigate a crash on Lander Avenue

TURLOCK – A motorist suffered major injuries after the car he was driving was struck by a big rig Friday evening.

The crash happened at about 7:14pm on Lander Avenue near Greenway Avenue. According to an officer from California Highway Patrol, the driver of a red sedan was traveling on Greenway Avenue at a high rate of speed, and per witnesses and surveillance video, did not stop at the stop sign at Lander.

The car crossed the path of the big rig, not giving its driver enough time to stop. The sedan was struck, and the force of the impact split the car in half. The front half came to rest near the intersection, the rear half was thrown into a nearby yard.

The driver was removed by fire personnel from the vehicle with major injuries. He was flown by helicopter to a hospital for care, and his condition and identity remains unknown.

The truck driver remained at the scene.

Fatal crash on Highway 99

The crash happened just south of Arch Road shortly before 6am

STOCKTON – A crash involving at least three vehicles claimed the life of a motorist Wednesday morning.

The crash was reported at about 5:57am on the northbound lanes of Highway 99 just south of the Arch Road exit. At least two lanes were blocked, and it was reported that one person was trapped in a vehicle.

Early reports indicate the involved vehicles were reported as a Chevy Malibu, a Ford Focus, and a medium duty truck.

The crash was cleared and traffic was reopened by 9:00am.
