STOCKTON – An off-duty police detective was arrested Wednesday night after he was found driving under the influence.

The incident occurred at about 11:40pm near the intersection of Park and Pilgrim Streets. Police responded to a report of a vehicle stopped for an extended period of time and found Detective Andrew Donovan inside, who was off duty at the time. He was subsequently taken into custody and booked at the San Joaquin County Jail.

In light of the misconduct, the department took immediate action by placing the detective on paid administrative leave, pending an administrative review.

The Stockton Police Officer’s Association issued the following statements:

“Today, we were disappointed to learn of the arrest of a member of our association. If these allegations are proven true those acts are not a reflection of the values of the men and women who wear the uniform. We do not take these allegations lightly and know firsthand the trauma that DUI driving can cause.”

“Stockton POA members are not afraid to hold each other accountable and it was Stockton officers who investigated and ultimately made the arrest. SPOA members are impartial and enforce the law equally regardless of occupation and personal relationship. The officer in question, like any defendant, is afforded the due process of law and presumption of innocence. The POA will continue to do everything possible to repair the reputation of the community and work to regain any trust lost.”
