Modesto Forever 21 Location Nearing End

MODESTO - The two-story Forever 21 will soon be a thing of the past for Modesto Shoppers.

After the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection at the end of September, the Vintage Faire location was on the list to go, including 110 other stores across the United States.

The store will remain open until December 31st. Until then, shoppers can find some great deals at the popular fashion store. All items tagged with a red line are $2 or under. Most items are at a 50-80% discount. The store is also selling all their fixtures, furniture and equipment. Shoppers are also allowed to keep any hangers included on items they buy. More hangers could be purchased as well. 
 
Although the Modesto location is closing it’s doors, the Stockton and Turlock locations will remain open for Central Valley shoppers.

When shopping at the Modesto store, the receipt will include a 40% discount coupon on any regular priced item from the Stockton and Turlock locations, which expires December 31st.

Firefighters Battle Blaze at Turlock Home

TURLOCK - Several fire crews responded to a house fire in the 2100 block of Mayfaire Drive Monday afternoon.
 
When firefighters arrived to the home, they noticed a garage with heavy fire spreading to the home and a vehicle in the driveway.  
 
Further fire damage to the home and neighboring homes was prevented by firefighters performing a vertical ventilation on the roof of the home to remove heat and smoke.

Everyone in the home was able to safely get out before fire crews arrived but two people were left displaced and received help from the Red Cross.

Suspect Drowns After Fleeing From Authorities

SAN JOQUIN COUNTY - A man under investigation during a burglary case drowned after fleeing from authorities into water, officials said Wednesday.

Lathrop detectives located the potential suspect at a location he was known to frequent, but when detectives attempted to make contact with him he fled.

Officials say the suspect ran into water near the area of Woodward Avenue and South Williams Road. When authorities advised the suspect to come out of the water, he refused.

Rescue/Dive teams with Lathrop Manteca Fire responded to attempt to help locate the suspect. He was later found deceased by the Sheriff's Boating Unit.

A protocol investigation into the incident was launched by authorities, details regarding the identity of the suspect were not released.

Bicyclist Killed by Train

EMPIRE - A bicyclist was killed after being struck by a train Tuesday morning.

The collision happened shortly after 8:00am near the intersection of Church and Second Streets.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene, however the bicyclist was pronounced deceased.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. No further information was available at publication time.

Traffic near Yosemite and Santa Fe was congested due to the crash.

Fire Causes Significant Damage to Modesto Home

MODESTO - Fire crews from various agencies responded to a report of a house on fire Sunday night.

The fire was dispatched at about 10:45pm at a house at the intersection of Miller and Phoenix, just north of Yosemite Boulevard.

Arriving firefighters found a home with significant fire activity that was visible from the street. The home appeared vacant and boarded up, with security fencing around it. Neighbors in the area noted that the home had previously burned, and saw squatters at the property recently.

The fire was controlled in less than an hour. An investigator responded to the scene to investigate the cause and origin. No further information was available Sunday night.

Officer Involved Shooting Investigated

MODESTO – Authorities investigated an officer involved shooting that took place behind the Motel 6 on West Orangeburg Avenue.

At about 9:45pm, an officer called out “shots fired” over their radio channel. The dispatch prompted a large response from numerous officers. An ambulance was also requested to the scene. Paramedics were seen unloading equipment, but left a few short moments after without a patient.

Later, the Modesto Police Department released a statement indicating that officers responded to the location after receiving information that a person was at the motel who was wanted on warrants. At least one officer opened fire while they were making contact, and the person was shot and died.

Detectives responded to the scene to continue the investigation. Officials did not release any further information Friday night.

Several Detained After Hours Long Stand-off

MODESTO - Authorities detained several people in a central Modesto home Friday night after an investigation led to a pursuit.

The incident began around 4:15pm as detectives with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office were conducting an investigation into a suspect known to be armed.

A short time later, authorities located a vehicle associated with the investigation being driven by the suspect and attempted to stop him. The suspect fled into the downtown Modesto area and ran into a home on Walden Street.

Authorities quickly surrounded the home and called in the SWAT team. The Sheriff's Air Support unit circled overhead assisting units on the ground. Modesto Police Officers also assisted in the search. As the night went on, a warrant was issued for the location.

The occupants of the home later called 911 indicating they wished to surrender. In total, 5 people were taken into custody shortly before 10:00pm including the suspect sought by officials.
