Modesto Homicide Suspect Identified

MODESTO – Police identified a suspect who was charged in Wednesday’s homicide.

Jose Alberto Maldonado, 38, was charged by detectives in the Wednesday morning shooting death of a man on Ontario Avenue. He is also known as Jose Alberto Mancia.

The shooting happened at about 8:30am on the 1700 block of Ontario Avenue. The victim was found with gunshot wounds down in the roadway. He was rushed to a hospital where he died.

Authorities said Maldonado led authorities on a pursuit that ended on Highway 99 near Sultana Drive in Merced County. The highway was closed for about an hour while authorities negotiated with him to surrender.

Maldonado was also charged with weapons violations, due to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. He was also charged with evading, and an enhancement for using a firearm during a felony.

Authorities did not release a motive Thursday morning, but say Maldonado and the victim were known to each other. He was held without bail.

The victim remained unidentified Thursday, pending notification of next of kin.

Family Raises Funds for Driver Killed in Morgan Road Crash

MODESTO – The man killed Friday afternoon when his car collided with a semi leaves behind a wife and four children.

The crash happened at about 5:30pm near Morgan Road and Nelson Way. Officers responded to a report of a crash with major injuries. When they arrived they found a Ford Mustang that collided with a semi truck.

The driver of the Mustang suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Relatives identified the driver as Timoteo Alvarez, who leaves a wife and four children.

Helicopter Recovery Under Way at Reservoir

STANISLAUS COUNTY – Recovery efforts began today for a helicopter that crashed at the Modesto Reservoir Saturday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 11:00am Saturday in the northwest area of the reservoir. The pilot and passenger suffered minor to moderate injuries. Both were transported by ambulance to a hospital for care.

By 8:00am Sunday the Stanislaus County Sheriff Dive Team and heavy recovery equipment arrived at the reservoir to begin the recovery process. The helicopter sank below the surface of the water.

Waterways at the reservoir have been closed until further notice.

Fatal Shooting Investigated Friday Night

STOCKTON – Police Investigated a fatal shooting Friday night that claimed the life of a 28 year old man.

Shortly before 10:15pm, officers were dispatched to the area of the 300 block of South San Joaquin Street for a report of a person shot.

Arriving officers found the victim, identified only as a 28 year old man, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Detectives responded to investigate the case. No suspect information was available at time of publication.
