Truck Suspected in Fatal Hit and Run Located

MODESTO – One person has been detained for questioning after police located a truck suspected in a fatal hit and run

Officers said a citizen noticed the truck near the 300 block of Magnolia Avenue Thursday afternoon. The citizen called authorities who began searching for the vehicle.

Traffic investigators located the truck parked in a nearby driveway at a residence. The vehicle had no front bumper and no hood. Officers said the vehicle also had a freshly replaced windshield.

One person was detained and taken to the police station to be interviewed by an investigator, however their involvement was unknown at time of publication.

The vehicle was a green Chevrolet S10 pickup.

The collision happened Tuesday night near the intersection of 8th and L Streets. Police responded after a man was struck by a westbound vehicle in the intersection. Police say the truck did not stop and fled north on 7th Street.

Child Airlifted From Ceres Car Crash

CERES – A child was airlifted by helicopter to a regional hospital after a car crash Friday afternoon.

The crash happened at about 5:00pm near the intersection of Whitmore Avenue and Moffett Road. Police responded and found the crash in the intersection. The child patient was in one of the involved vehicles.

The child was transported by ambulance to the Ceres High School football stadium. A PHI Air Medical helicopter responded to the football field to fly the child to a hospital. Police said the decision was made as a precaution because of the child’s age, but noted the injuries did not appear serious.

Police also said another crash had occurred at the same intersection earlier in the afternoon.

Fiery Vehicle Crash Reported Near Ceres

CERES – A vehicle collision that resulted in a fire shut down Crows Landing Road and claimed the life of a motorist Friday night.

The crash happened near the intersection of Crows Landing and Barnhart Roads at about 7:30pm. Early reports indicate three vehicles were involved, a pickup truck, a Lexus sedan and an SUV.

The hay bales and an involved vehicle caught fire as a result of the collision. Crows Landing Road was completely closed down between Keyes and Taylor Roads.

An air ambulance was called to the scene to fly one motorist to a hospital. A second air ambulance was dispatched but was later canceled.

A resident who lived nearby and saw the fire ran over with a fire extinguisher to try to help before emergency crews arrived.

The crash was under investigation by California Highway Patrol Officers.

Pedestrian Killed in Collision Near Lathrop

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY – Authorities with the California Highway Patrol investigated a crash that claimed the life of a man Friday night.

The collision happened at about 9:43pm on eastbound Interstate 120 about a quarter mile east of Interstate 5. The California Highway Patrol reports a man ran across the lanes of traffic toward the median and was struck by a vehicle.

The pedestrian landed in the slow lane of traffic and died from his injuries.

No further details were available Friday night.
