Records Set And Tied For Warmest August In The Region

CENTRAL VALLEY – The National Weather Service has released information for the average temperature for the month of August.

The City of Stockton set a new record for the average temperature of 81.9 degrees for the month of August. The normal average temperature for this month is usually 75.7 degrees in Stockton. The previous record was an average of 81.2 degrees set in August of 1967.

The city of Modesto tied at an average temperature of 82.1 degrees for the month of August previously set in 2017. The normal average temperature for this month is usually 78 degrees in Modesto.

As always, it is encouraged to stay prepared and hydrated for hot temperatures. Avoiding outdoor activities from 10am to 6pm during hot weather is recommended.

Road Closures, Flood Warnings Issued Near Newman

STANISLAUS COUNTY – A flood warning was issued by the Office of Emergency Services Thursday, warning residents near the town of Newman of several road closures.

Significant flooding of the Orestimba Creek has prompted several road closures. They are the following:

Bell Road from Anderson to West Stuhr, Eastin Road from Anderson to West Stuhr, and Jorgensen Road from Anderson to West Stuhr.

Although there was no rain Friday, the roadways were very much under several feet of water. Emergency officials warn to mind the road closures and not attempt to drive through any flooded roads. Several barricades and flood warnings were in place to warn drivers.

MODESTO – The National Weather Service said Tuesday will have a high of about 76 and will be mostly sunny. Winds are estimated to be 5 miles per hour from the east.

Tuesday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 47. Winds will be from the northwest between 3 and 5 miles per hour.

Earthquake Felt in Valley and the Region

MODESTO – An earthquake was felt Thursday afternoon in many valley cities and across the region.

According to the USGS, the earthquake happened at about 3:50pm and initially was estimated to be a 4.8 in magnitude. The epicenter was about 7 miles from the community of Farmington, east of Stockton.

UPDATE – USGS reclassified the epicenter to be closer to the Smith Valley area.

Officials with the National Weather Service reported feeling the quake in their building and reported slight shaking and movement.

People from as far as Merced, Sacramento, and the Bay Area reported feeling the tremor.

So far no damage or injuries were reported.
