Major Crash Investigation on Briggsmore Avenue

Published

on

MODESTO – A crash investigation closed down Briggsmore Avenue near the Amtrak Station Monday evening.

At about 7:22pm emergency personnel were dispatched to the report of a vehicle collision on Briggsmore Avenue near Held Drive.

The crash involved a white pickup truck that was on fire when emergency crews arrived. Officials at the scene reported that witnesses to the crash were able to pull an occupant out of the burning vehicle. A second person was found just outside the pickup, however at time of publication, police were unsure of their involvement in the crash.

Both persons, identified only as a male and a female, were taken to a hospital by AMR ambulance crews. Their injuries were said to be critical by officials investigating the crash.

The cause of the crash was not yet clear to authorities, however the damage appears to have been caused by a fixed object, possibly indicating the truck had struck a tree. Police say there were conflicting reports from witnesses as to which direction the truck was traveling before the crash. They are confident, however, that the truck was the only vehicle involved.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is encouraged to contact the Modesto Police Department.
